I won’t accept speaking, podcasts or other such opportunities unless certain conditions are met:

Diversity is Considered

Organisers need to be taking proactive action to ensure diversity and inclusion. Not simply “making the diversity hire” as one company quite openly told me was their approach!

The 60:40 Rule

A line up must be 60% max of:

  • Male
  • White people

to participate unless it is specifically targeting another protected characteristic.

Recommendations

If I refuse an opportunity it is not good enough to either shy away OR invite a pile-on. Instead, I will offer 3 alternatives from my network.

Humility

I won’t secure every opportunity or get everything right. It is important to pay attention AND share diverse events regardless of my inclusion.
